The grocery by my house has cartons of black berries, 1 for 1$. Should I stock up and freeze some? (I've never froze berries before, so I'm not sure how to keep the freezer burn off of them?!?)

I would so stock up on blackberries. I simply wash, let them dry good and put them in zip lock freezer bags and push as much air out as possible before zipping. I haven't had any problem with freezer burn, but then they don't stay around long.

  1. Rinse the berries
  2. Drain as much water as possible
  3. freeze the berries in a shallow pan (to make sure they are individually frozen)
  4. When frozen, seal the berries in a vacuum seal bag (or ziplock bag)
Remove as much air as possible if using a ziplock bag.

yep, we have had them on sale here as well, but not that cheap: I wonder where they are coming from? I just froze some a couple days ago. Now I have frozen 3 kinds of frozen berries in the freezer.

Yes they are from Mexico, and they freeze just fine. I've also been seeing cheap blackberries here and eating them.

If they do wind up with freezer burns despite your best attempt, don't throw them out. Toss some in a blender (frozen) and use them for smoothies.

I picked up 5.6 oz containers of them for $ .88 each this week.
