Last night we had a nice selection of charcuterie, bone marrow, pork belly, duck confit, and a big bowl of brussels sprouts.

I will admit...we ate at a local restaurant. Not about to tackle all that at home in a single meal.

I found real fresh okra in our store so I could not resist and I will make a South Indian curried okra dish with rice and chapatis. For dessert I also bought lemon squares and with it we will have Darjeeling tea

1/4 cup tamarind
1 cup boiling water
5 tbsp olive oil or other oil you desire
1 1/2 lbs cut okra
2 diced onions
1 inch fresh finely cut ginger root
2 crushed garlic cloves
2-3 finely cut green chilies
1 tsp turmeric
1 Tbsp coriander
1 1/4 cup coconut milk
Salt to taste
1 tsp mustard seeds
4 curry or 4 bay leaves

Soak tamarind in boiling water and let cool down. Pour it through a strainer and get as much soft pulp as you can. It has to be 1 cup ,adding more boiled water to make it 1 cup.Fry okra in olive oil until golden brown and put on a plate. Now add onions, ginger, garlic, chilies and fry until onions are golden brown. Next you add turmeric, coriander powder and fry at least 3 minutes, mixing occasionally. If mixture becomes too dry add 1 or 2 tsp of water. Pour tamarind juice in and add okra and boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for at least 5 minutes. Mix in the coconut milk and salt and boil again. Reduce heat again to simmer, this time leave pot uncovered for about 10 minutes. In a small frying pan heat olive oil and add mustard seeds,curry/bay leaves, cover and fry until you hear mustard seeds pop. Transfer mixture over to the okra dish and cook for 1 minute. Serve dish immediately with rice or roti/chapati.

I grilled up chicken wings and corn on the cob last night for tonight's dinner.

I hope I can get a good price on some okra here. I'm making a big batch of gumbo tomorrow for dinner and the freezer.

Tonight something really simple ... Campbell's bean with bacon soup (can you say comfort food? I fondly remember this soup from my childhood!) with lightly buttered oat-bran toast. I'm not too hungry and this should be fine, with fresh fruit for dessert -- I stocked up on oranges, apples, nectarines, plums, and grapes the last time I was at the grocery store so I am set for awhile!

Grilling out in this beautiful weather. Dinner is hot dogs, baked beans, corn on the cob, and garlic bread. Sweet iced tea to drink. Strawberry shortcake for dessert.

A black cherry non-fat Greek yogurt, 3 toasted whole wheat slices of bread with healthy-style margarine and strawberry spread and a large mug of Ceylon tea with a teaspoon of sugar and a bit of non-fat milk.
