While out for lunch with friends the other day we were talking about certain foods not being on menus anymore around us. Partly because of so many chain restaurants coming in and mom & pop diners no longer being open.

Swiss steak
Salsibury steak
Ham loaf
Chipped beef gravy
Fried bologna sandwich

These were some we came up with what are some foods not on your menus now days? Use to go to a local diner growing up that had the best shrimp baskets the diner is still there but the shrimp basket isn't.

Manhattan sandwiches (either hot turkey or roast beef on bread with a nice portion of gravy on top) served with
mashed potatoes.

If you have the chain Cheddar's nearby, they have Monte Cristos on their menu all the time.

You don't see fried okra as much as you used to.

Yes! Though Cheesecake Factory has fried zucchini in "long" form which isn't half bad.

I'll also add hush puppies to the list (at least I can't seem to find them anywhere in Northern VA), only further south.

I think the prevalence of salisbury steak in elementary school lunches and tv dinners killed America's desire to have it when they go out to eat.
