You should have started cooking them as soon as you get em; that way it's only be about another 15 years til they're done

But seriously; got a bag of beans from food pantry one time - when I saw how long it'd take to cook them I gave em away.

That's a darn shame. Beans are very affordable. Great for tight budgets.

Squash are promiscuous. Summer squash will cross-pollinate with cucumbers, which cross with pumpkins, butternut, acorn, or whatever the bees find. Saving squash seeds from anything is an adventure in what will come up the next year.

Success! We loved it!

It was spicy but not too spicy.

I made cheddar biscuits to go with it.

My thanks to everyone who posted in this thread!

Glad to here it! These are the type or brand we get down here. They come with a spice packet. We add the sausage, onion, garlic, cumin, diced or stewed tomatoes, etc. You're welcome.

The aftermath. Two days later, we're still tooting. It's not terrible. Not painful. Not constant. But there's a noticeable increase in tooting. Next time, I'll soak them for three days like someone mentioned in this thread.

Hilarious

If you don't have time for a longer soak you can always just burp the beans to minimize tooting
That is bring to a fast boil in salt water for about 30 min then rinse in cold water then transfer to crock pot for slow cooking with all your other ingredients

Cheddar biscuit sound like a yummy side with the soup

Save the beans till spring and plant them. Later in the summer you'll have plenty of beans.

I must be the only person in the world who doesn't get gassy from beans.
