Cuisinart products are junk in my opinion. I’d go with the Oxo (always a good, inexpensive option) or the Kitchen Aid (which is known for quality).
Personally I love doing veg prep. The trick is to get a top quality chef’s knife and a very large wooden cutting board. I visited a friend once and saw her slicing carrots with a steak knife on a glass cutting board. It was a tedious and absurd operation because she didn’t understand the value of having the right tools.
If you have the right knife and a little technique (look for video tutorials on YouTube) you can get through a lot of veggies very quickly.
wow, I guess that shows how subjective products can be: I would buy Cuisinart over almost any brand. We also like Kitchen Aid.
Your idea of the chefs knife is a good one, but not everyone can learn to chop will with one. If takes a little skill. I do use my knife most of the time, but when I have a lot of chopping to do, I use my 4 cut food processor that isn't really a food processor but more of a chopper. And yes, it is a Cuisinart.
OP, here, thought I'd come back to get more advice now that I'm thinking of doing more of my own food prep. Don't know that I'd call it cooking…..
Any more recommendations about a good dicer. One that can do tomatoes and carrots would be great but may that's asking too much.
I'm loving tabbouleh/tabouli right now. And am torn between just buying it pre-made, and making my own.
Obviously, this dish entails a lot of dicing -- of firm items (like onions and cumbers) ….and softer ones like the tomatoes. Not to mention the mincing of the parsley and mint leaves.
Thanks.
