After being opened? I know it's full of chemicals but how long do you think it will last in the fridge? (without killing someone).

I think it would depend on how it's packaged. If it's in a small package of slices (like Oscar Mayer liver cheese), I wouldn't keep it more than 3-4 days after opening. If it's wrapped like a whole liver wurst, it should last a lot longer--it has a lot of salt (preservative) & isn't exposed to the air. Maybe contact your local deli?

If its sliced from the deli (whole loaf) you should get a week in the fridge,,

if its a small chunk, and you opened it,,, its about the same (check to see the expiration date on package if you bought it this way)

if any white spots start growing on it-throw it out

actually it will keep longer than most of you think. It will probably last at least a week, maybe 10 days. Remember like Eureka said, it is filled with chemicals and preservatives.

You gotta cover it well.

It lasts until it grows a fur (around 10 days). After 2 weeks it might start living and walking off.

I think I've run up against the safe keeping limit so now I'm just watching to see if it really grows "fur". This is kind of like a high school science project.....

first the taste changes, then the color turns and it gets a bit crusty. Then the fur. I am a leberwurst-forgotten-in-fridge-specialist.

I put it in a zip lock bag. We use it up in less then a week. We used to get some good stuff when we lived outside Mannheim Germany, in Ben Franklin Village...

I love liverwurst.
