When I was scrubbing out the tub with baking soda I got thinking about this. What other foods are good for nonfood purposes?
I know of a 5-alarm hot sauce a friend uses to keep the deer off his tomatoes.
Beer is good for catching slugs.
A slice of bread can be used to rehydrate brown sugar.
Does anyone else know any multi-purpose food tricks along these lines?
A necklace of garlic keep the vampires at bay. It is also good for birth control as it keeps the potential mate away unless the object of your affection has also armed themselves with the same. They are not then repelled but you have just found your garlic soul mate for the making of garlic love.
eh, whatsamatta with dat, I am New Yawk Italian and I want a damn to smell like me.
When I was a kid, I had very dried dark elbows and my mother would rub in olive oil to soften them with a wipe of a lemon to whiten. Everybody knew when I was around as I smelled like a salad.
1. I use coarse kosher salt to scrub out my cast iron skillet if it ended up with a crusty residue from cooking. Then I wipe it out with a little oil or Crisco.
2. I think I heard that coffee grounds will absorb a musty odor in a storage area. I am going to give that a try.....I have a Christmas spiced ground coffee that I didn't care for.......worth a try to use it that way.
3. Mayonnaise is touted as being good for renewing marred or water rings on wood.
4. A pot-pourie can be made of kitchen spices and some apple cider vinegar and water to simmer on the stove. We also used to stud an apple with whole cloves to make Pomanders, to scent linen closets and drawers after they dry. When I was a kid that was often a Christmas gift to an elderly aunt or grand parent.
Along with other suggestions in this thread. I also use Pam/Olive oil to remove stickers from items/walls. Olive oil is excellent on hair for a conditioning treat. Eggs for a peel off mask. Cinnamon and sugar for a scrub. Lemon for lightening hair and skin.
