Hi!

I saw this recipe -- if you can even call it that -- and I've got some questions for you bakers.

Here's the (entire!?!) recipe:

1 small jar of applesauce
1/3 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder

Mix everything well, roll into little circles and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes (depending on the size of your cookies). These cookies are soft and chewy, without all the extra calories that butter and sugar bring to a more classic recipe. Feel free to add chocolate chips or dried fruits (like cranberries or apricots) if you want to jazz it up a little bit. You'll get all the flavor and none of the guilt!

Here are my questions:

1. "small jar" of applesauce ... "small jar" -- what does that even mean? A baby food jar?
2. With this little amount of ingredients, how many cookies could this possibly yield?
3. Would I need to put anything on the baking sheet to stop them from sticking? Spray? Parchment paper?
4. Let's assume (and rightly so) that I'd add chocolate chips. Could these cookies (with just applesauce, flour, and baking powder) possibly taste any good?

I appreciate any help that you can provide!

Well those would be awful.

Seems like only part of a recipe.

With only a third cup flour I suspect you would need to add the apple sauce a little at a time to test the consistency. Start with a 1/3 apple sauce and see what that does. Add a little more from there until you feel comfortabl with the consistency.

Your not losing much if it doesn't work out.

Seriously, that was the entire recipe. The whole thing. It was on a list of recipes that had only three ingredients each.

Hahahaha! Good idea. If I decide to make them (unlikely), you know what the fourth ingredient would be? Pizza.

I think mixing flour and applesauce would make a paste not a dough, not something I would bother trying.

Paste!?! I hate applesauce to begin with so saying "paste" (such an icky word) was the final nail in the coffin. Thanks! I'm just going to buy full-fat million-calorie cookies, as we all should.

And what cookies bake for 20-30 minutes?
If I had any applesauce, I would go try it right now, just to see if there is any redeeming value. The only thing that gives me pause is that I know some recipes substitute applesauce for fat.

I was worried about the baking time too. I wondered how wet they'd be that they needed that much time to "dry out."

Exactly. Applesauce instead of fat. And considering that I *hate* applesauce and *love* fat, it was pretty much doomed from the start.

I was going to load it down with chocolate chips if I tried it, even knowing that it defeated the purpose.

I love applesauce, but then I make my own. And I wouldn't waste it on this 'recipe.'
