Reading through the "What do you no longer buy" thread, the length of some people's dont buy list made me wonder what is left for them to eat!

I buy fresh vegies much more (used to use frozen, but never canned)
Butter (no more margarine in this house)
Sea salt
Expensive, good olive oil for salads
Truffle oil
Lots of Asian ingredients including sauces and fresh vegies
Shallots and Vidalia onions
Different types of rice (jasmine, basmati, long grain brown, arborio, etc.)
Crimini mushrooms (baby bellas)
Fresh, never frozen shrimp and soft shell crabs (THANK YOU NORTH CAROLINA!)

  • Butter - We were never margarine users, but used oil in cooking. I still do, depending on what it is, but a bit of butter adds wonderful richness and rounds out flavors so well.
  • Asparagus - I'll admit to being something of a late bloomer with asparagus. I never liked it when I was little and on through college. It wasn't until after college that I even began to tolerate it, and really not until the last couple of years that I grew to love it.
  • Raw steak - I was never comfortable cooking steaks at home because I felt like I could never get the timing right, even with a meat thermometer. Eventually, I discovered flat-iron steaks and how they were just "made" for my skillet, and it all just worked out. Now, Friday nights are steak nights at our house.
  • Adobo and sazon - How I ever lived without either of these seasoning mixes, I do not know.

Chile peppers- habaneros
Artichokes

I pretty much buy everything else in the produce section, and seafood. But never buy anything in the isle or dairy section.

Sauerkraut. I find a bit of it goes well with most meals and it's good for you.

I'm a much wiser grocery shopper now than in years past. I shop only sale items from the flyer, always make out my weekly menus from the flyer, and always shop with a list. I also bulk shop when I can, buy larger cuts of meat and get the butcher to cut for me, freeze sale milk and cheese, bagels, hot dog and hamburger buns and bread when there are good sales. Just about everything goes on sale eventually.

True sauerkraut is very good for you as is kimchee. However, the most healthful types aren't the vinegar-based or cooked versions - and make sure you drink that juice.
