I rather eat grilled or pan seared fish than fry fish. Fry fish is for people who don't really appreciate or eat real seafood.

(Fry also meaning "small fish").
I suppose if you fried small fish you could have a Fish fry fry.
I understand the play on words.....fish fry.....but often food centered events mention the food and the verb in the descriptive name we use. We didn't go to the fried fish....we went to a fish fry.

Fish fry; Clam bake; Pig Roast; Wienie Roast

Why post an insulting and judgemental generalization (that has no basis in fact) when you could have simply posted your response to the topic at hand . No one here has said all they eat is fried fish and that all seafood must be fried. In fact, the topic of discussion is whether one prefers fried fish or chicken wings.

You CAN make your own batter. I do it all the time. Gluten free flour and gluten free beer.

I don't fry at home. That's why I used to like going to fish fry events.

It's not a southern thing, here in Wisconsin we have Fish Fry every Friday night, year round. And it's at restaurants, supper clubs, bars and taverns, churches don't do it anymore, too much competition I guess! It's our German/Catholic/tavern heritage. Even little places that only serve bar food any other day of the week will have fish on Fridays. And we don't all say "Fish Fry" anymore, as in "Ya goin' to a fish fry Friday night?" It's more common to say "Goin' out for fish Friday?"

And for people who, uh, like fried fish.

I'm assuming that fried chicken is for people who don't really appreciate or eat real poultry.

Same. I never fry at home, and would rather go out for it once in a while and let somebody else deal with the mess and the oil and its disposal and all that.
