So in theory you are still thirsty after drinking a milkshake? I know I still am, it hits the spot on a hot day but doesn't quench your thirst. A A&W root-beer float does served in a frosty mug.
I don't drink milk shakes that often, but when I do, I ask for a glass of water at the same time.
Obviously, very salty or sweet foods might do that, but for me, there are just some foods where I always feel super thirsty after eating them. I've noticed things with a lot of tomato sauce fit the bill, especially pizza but also some pasta and subs/sandwiches with tomato sauce like the meatbal sub from subway. I love pizza, but after eating a pizza I have to have a drink. Maybe because your average pizza has a hell of a lot of salt in it, not just the sauce but pepperoni etc if it's got it. Also if the crust is really dry, the whole combo. I don't know what it is, but I think tomato paste/thick sauce just seems to make me really thirsty.
Burgers and stuff too, and I guess drier foods like sandwiches. On the other hand an Asian noodle soup not so much obviously.
Chinese food, even without MSG added, makes me want to drink gallons of water.
Pretzels, pizza, Chinese food, and burritos from Chipotle make me thirstier than other foods.
