I just got done drinking 15 2-liter sodas (both regular and diet) in the past week and I feel sick. Especially after reading articles that say high-fructose corn syrup may be the culprit behind my gout and fatty liver. I have also read that Splenda, which I thought was safe, contains chlorine and is harmful to my health.

So are there anything that is 100% safe? I know water is but I can not only drink water because my craving for soda goes through the roof after a few days so need long-term alternative.

It takes a few weeks to break a habit. Keep with the water.

Soda is a hard addiction to break, it won't happen over night. You might look at purchasing a Soda Stream so you can make your own bubbly water and add a splash of juice for flavor.

Try seltzer water (not club soda.) Seltzer has zero calories. They make seltzer these days in flavors, very tasty & bubbly.

Sodastream | Turn Water Into Fresh Sparkling Water And Soda
I'm kinda the same way. You can use regular tap water & add flavorings (or not).

I mix half a glass of 100% juice and half a glass of selzer water. It's less sugar than drinking the same amount of straight juice, but gives me sweet carbonation when I'm wanting soda.

Carbonated water. I got a Sodastream several years ago, and now extremely rarely have soda. I don't sweeten the water I carbonate, but usually add lemon or lime. Sodastream gives every impression of being a gimmicky gadget, but we use it numerous times daily and have for several years now. I also drink far more water than I ever did before.

I drink a lot of iced tea, not store-bought but made myself by putting the tea bags into a pot of hot water. I'll add a little sugar but not much, better yet if you can drink it without sugar. Being hooked on soda is hard to break, I personally don't like it, I find it too sweet. One thing you might try is water with a splash of syrup, the kind used in espresso drinks such as Torani or DaVinci.

You need to nix the sugar. I went off of soda in two phases. I drank a bunch of San Pellegino (the regular not the flavored) and then went to drinking a lot of unsweetened tea. Now I'm on coconut water and spring water.

Soda stream seems way too expensive and constantly need to refill the carbonator.

What about Zevia soda flavored with Stevia or sports drinks like Gatorade/Propel? Aren't they much healthier alternatives?
