My brother and I loved these as kids. They came out some time in the late 60's, and the last time my brother remembers seeing them was in 1979, when he was in the hospital. Unfortunately I was away at college at the time, and was not able to get a pack. The packages were in a pouch made of foil, and had some sort of stripped animal on it, like maybe a cat.
They were made by Beechnut, the same company that brought us the Stripped gum. In fact, each piece of the candy, had a cartoonish animal stamped on them, that sort of reminded me of the cartoonish animals on the package of the stripped gum. For example, the
grape Sour bite had a hippo on it and the orange one had a tiger on them. "Their slogan was "Yipes, Stripes! It's Sour Bites!"
They were very popular until Sweettarts came on the market, and took over. Don't get me wrong. I love sweettarts, but I likes Sour Bites better.
I've been trying to find them for years, but no such luck
