But the worst "Southern Fried Chicken" I come across is in the South. Have southerners all stopped trying?

Go into any restaurant in NC/SC and you will get chicken either drowning in grease, or heavily over-breaded. Go into a Supermarket and it is even worse.

I think the best southern fried chicken I have eaten is actually from a supermarket named "Dick's Family Food" in Wrightstown, WI. It is golden colored, has a light crispy skin, and is extremely moist inside.

What has happened to the south? Or maybe I just haven't found the right place?

If you know of a place to get phenomenal Southern Fried Chicken in the Columbia, SC or Charlotte, NC area, please let me in on the secret.
Try Hathaways Fried Chicken in Monroe, NC on Hwy 74. We just got a Popeye's Fried Chicken in Monroe as well that's not too bad. It's also on Hwy 74 almost next door to Hathaways. I don't see them closing Hathaways down anyway, it's survived the onslaught of 2 KFC's and 2 Bojangles. Have you tried Price's Chicken Coop in Charlotte or The Chicken Box on N Tryon?

I'll give it a try.

Hyperbole is certainly present in the original post - baseless generalizations about an entire region based on a few experiences in two states .

One of the best places I know of. Didn't see one near you. Bummer. Best fried chicken cutlet sandwich I ever had in 42 years of eating them. The rest of the menu is great.

BTW - have you purchased fried chicken at EVERY restaurant in NC/SC - because you state that ANY restaurant there will serve greasy fried chicken.

I would be ashamed to negatively generalize the culinary capabilities of an entire region of the United States because I purchased greasy fried chicken at a few restaurants and supermarkets.
Thank you. NC/SC just barely escapes the east coast label IMO.

Ask them for a recipe for grits. If they know one, they're South Koreans. :-)
