My mom's homemade donuts made from a recipe in a Slovenian cookbook. They were deep fried and then coated in whatever you like - my preference cinnamon /sugar or powdered sugar. She would always make them around Halloween - perhaps the memories 'color' my perception.

Of the store bought kind there's a local bakery in the suburb I grew up that was excellent my favorite was the fried cakes with cream topping and chocolate sprinkles, the maple glaze topping with nuts or the baked filled ones with custard and chocolate topping.

Dunkin Donuts made good ones like 20 years ago, and that was the best i had at the time, but stopped buying those a long time ago.

The best Donuts i get and they are better than the old DD ones are from my local supermarket "Market Basket"..

They make big, fresh tasty donuts and there's a large amount of jelly in the donut..Market Basket hands down. Fresh, large, with plenty of filler no matter what type you get. And cheap too!

This. I live in the home state of Krispy Kreme and love them but I
love Britt's even more!

I have to rank Krispy Kreme donuts as the world's worst. The best I ever tasted are from Rainbow Donuts in Phoenix, AZ and the ones delivered to your home from the defunct Helm's Bakery in Los Angeles.

I think the donut that I was currently eating when I was asking myself about the best donut I ever had would be the best donut I ever had, until the next time I was eating the best donut I ever had.

YES!!!!

I am from eastern NC, and have always loved hot Krispy Kremes, but when I went to the boardwalk at Carolina Beach and had Britt's, it became an instant addiction that I satisfy every time I go to Carolina Beach. I lay awake here in Upstate SC just thinking about them. Just sitting on the bench at the boardwalk with a hot heavy bag of a dozen greasy, sugary, Britt's... HEAVEN!

I only like C. Cream when they are hot: otherwise they are too greasy.
I'm a bit surprised someone else mentioned this place. This place was a college tradition at Caltech, at least it was in the late 90s. I have no idea why we called it "Far Fosters" because the actual name is The Donut Man. It's on Foothill (i.e. Rt 66) in Glendora and they're famous for their strawberry donuts. They aren't so much strawberry topped as they are strawberry filled. And you know they're good because you can only get them in season.

It may be their most famous donut, but it's not my favorite. When the spring strawberry season is over, summer brings the peach donut, which is even better. So many great memories of 2AM donut runs.

Anyone else make canned biscuit donuts? My child LOVES those things.

Quarter the biscuits,
fry in oil until golden,
flip and fry other side until golden,
toss into a paper bag with some sugar and cinnamon,
shake to coat donuts,
pig-out.
