I love bacon and we use it for many things but refuse to pay over 4 bucks a pound. My local supermarket has the major good brands currently at like 3.80 to 4 a pound and they have their own brand which is good for like 3.50..

I buy the low sodium and like it better than the regular and often find deals "managers specials" in the bacon isle.

Hell the last time i bought bacon was at market basket almost 2 months ago. The brand was oscar mayer but the expiration date was close and bagged 5 pounds for a buck a piece..Through em in the freezer and have 1 pound left..

I probably wont be so lucky next week though...

Regular slab bacon at Costco Kirkland $3.49-$3.99lb. depending on the time of year. Regular, low salt and woodsmoked. Costco's bacon is always full thick slices.

Low fat bacon in my house is just bacon that was cooked longer to render off more fat for my drippings jar in the fridge.

Default Benton bacon

BTW - it's $7.50 lb at Benton's website - you have to buy four pounds though.

I don't know where you're seeing that. If I go on the website and request 4 pounds, it is still totalling $16 per pound plus another $29 to ship! I don't see paying $93 for 4 pounds of bacon unless it's plated in 14 karat gold!

Couldn't agree more..we are talking about bacon, not prime rib!

I just went to the Benton's website and added 1 order (4 lbs) for a total of $30 - not sure what shipping cost is.

That's much better. I had been looking on this website posted by Kudzu:
Allan Benton's Bacon at Zingerman's Mail Order

I don't know how they get away with selling it for so much more. I wonder how much business they get?

Did you look at the ingredients they use to cure their bacon (on the bacon label) - salt, brown sugar, pepper .

I see some people reviewing Benton's on Yelp, and some of them are complaining that the bacon is overly salty. I like salty bacon-bacon is supposed to be salty. However, I do remember my experience visiting NC and trying country ham for the first time. I felt like I had a mouthful of salt and couldn't even taste the ham. If the bacon tastes anything like that, I'd be afraid to try it. Since it's called "country bacon", it does make me hesitant.
