Allan Benton's Bacon at Zingerman's Mail Order

Sorry. I guess I stopped at the first entry for Benton Bacon I saw when I googled Bentons Bacon. glad to know it isn't as expensive as I initially thought. Still kind of pricy. Wish Amazon prime sold and shipped bacon. and am I right that is can't be bought in stores except in Tennessee?

Reminds me of the good ole day when Coors Beer could only be bought in Colorado and friends would make road trips to buy cases to bring back to University of North Carolina frat parties. Man we thought we were really something else drinking that "imported' beer.

OP, I bought some low priced bacon once - super thin cut and what seemed like a high water content. Similar result to yours - no distinct slices and weak flavor. The 4 lb Costco packs have never let me down.

Re: commercial suppliers, a nice middle ground could be the "Business Costco" - I bought a 10 box of pre-cooked bacon there once. Never have I felt so happy yet unhealthy for so long! They also have these ~20-30 lb lamb sections - it's on my list to try someday.

I'm in north Alabama, so I live a few hours away from Madisonville. I've only seen it in restaurants and mail-order.

Hmm... I love country ham, so I'm not sure how my salt tolerance compares to yours. The dry curing process tends to remove moisture from the product and concentrate the flavors. I really like the flavor of the bacon.

I don't eat a lot of bacon, but once in a while I cook a pound of it and it's gone in a couple of days.

Here in Oregon, I bought some Fred Meyer brand and it was up with the best ever.

A couple of days? It lasts that long? When the kids are home, we polish off a pound at one meal!

Great Value bacon sounds very similar. I didn't buy the reduced fat version and still ended up almost shredding it. I also avoid turkey bacon. Not enough flavor. Swine all the way!

Our cafeteria at the hospital is actually very impressive.
But they mess one thing up consistently and that is bacon.
They make it so crispy it shatters and for some reason it tastes like old cigarettes.
Gross as hell. For NINE YEARS.
