We buy just the ramen noodles - no spice packets. We boil the noodles in homemade chicken stock, add bok choy, garlic, onions, shredded carrot, grated ginger, and mushrooms. Near the end of cooking we add an egg for each of us and let them poach in the stock, then serve.
When I was a kid we were pretty poor, so I ate plenty of it back then. I never buy it now though, but mostly because it's high in fat and sodium. If I'm going to eat a lot of fat and salt, it's going to be something good and satisfying, not ramen noodles.
Never have used the spice packets....but the noodles cooked, then scrambled with some eggs and onion is rather tasty. (You can used any left over pasta for this...but sometimes you don't have left over spaghetti.)
