First they tell us to expect rising prices cause of the drought. Then they say it's not cause of the drought. Now it's the drought, disease and changing habits.

Population continues to soar? Most 'experts' report that the US population is stagnant, or increasing very, very slowly. Some 'experts' even say it's decreasing!
As for causation, let's not forget that we've plowed all that corn into ethanol. Feed for pigs, chickens, beef, etc. has increased in cost, and that has to be recouped by the ranchers.

Food is traded just like a commodity like oil. We deregulated our commodities markets at the behest of requests from Wall St. in 1999/2000 and ever since the % of disposable income that Americans spend on food and fuel has skyrocketed from around 8% pre-1999/2000 to over 20% now.

I agree! Congress needs to quit subsidizing and/or promoting ethanol which is crap.
