Which Cast-Iron Breakfast do you prefer: Pancakes, Waffles, French Toast, or other? I grew up preferring pancakes as it was fun to eat and easier to make at home, as I had no waffle iron until recently. I also had the mindset that all waffles resembled frozen Eggo Waffles. (I hated those—I hardly ate them unless they were EXTRA crispy.) Then I grew up realizing waffles tasted better homemade or in restaurants. Now, I can enjoy both, and even French toast every so often. What's your favorite—if you have one?

I don't think cast-iron is really the right material for any of the grain-based breakfasts. It takes too long to heat up/cool down and can too easily get too hot and scorch the heck out of things while you're waiting for them to finish cooking.

Cast iron does better for things that don't scorch easily, or that cook fairly quickly at moderate-high temps. With that criteria, I'd say French Toast is the best option since you just need to quickly set & brown the egg batter dip (if you don't soak the bread totally soggy). Pancakes on a flat griddle can work if it's already up to temp and stays that way (like at a diner), but rolled steel works better IMO. I have a cast iron waffle iron that is supposed to be used in a hearth or woodstove that you pre-heat pretty hot, then remove it, pour in the batter and let them cook with the residual heat... you don't put it back in/over the flames... it's a major PITA, definitely prefer my electric waffle iron.

OTHER: I'd say the best cast-iron breakfast is a typical country skillet... bacon/ham/sausage/steak with hashbrowns and eggs.

I prefer either pancakes or waffles over French toast.

I make a baked stuffed French toast recipe that is amazing. Stuffing has plenty of fruit, fresh strawberries or blueberries, or a 3-berry combination.

I don't really care for pancakes, waffles or French toast unless it has fresh fruit in the recipe.

Of the three, I prefer French Toast. If I have a cast iron skillet though, I'm more likely to scramble some potatoes, onions, peppers and eggs.

I definitely prefer French toast out of all of these options. I've never been a big fan of pancakes or waffles, although I will eat them. If I do, I like them with fresh fruit and maybe some whipped cream or powdered sugar instead of pancake syrup.

I make pancakes nearly every weekend. I vary the types of flour and meals (i.e. types and grinds of grains) I use in the batter to keep it interesting. Occasionally we might have a French toast and when we do I prefer one made with either Brioche or Pain de Mie.

I do not appreciate waffles the way some people do.

Waffles! My wife makes the best from scratch waffles I've ever had. It's our new Saturday morning tradition. Of course I make pancakes on Sunday, because that's the rule.

Waffles. The heart-shaped Norwegian kind served with clotted cream, strawberry jam, blueberries, gjetost...

I had pancakes this morning. Decent, but ultimately disappointing.
