I live in the country. My neighbor owns his own fencing company, raises cattle and grows a mean vegetable garden. He's a country boy through and through. Tell him that growing and eating vegetables is "unmanly" and see what happens.
If he's a real man, he will smile and tell the person they might not be very bright.
I'm not keen on veg, nothing to do with it being manly or not. I eat enough though as my health is good and no malnutrition here! I like asparagus, green cabbage (not red), broccoli, green bean, artichoke and potato (not technically a veg!). I don't like vegetables that aren't green though, something about the flavour!
Do they count potatoes to the vegetables in England? As a German I eat them very often.
