I just watched an episode of Dr. Oz and he is very upset about the United States sending chickens to China. The chickens would be processed and sent back to the United States. He is very concerned about bacteria and other food handling conditions in China. Here is the segment of the show from Dr. Oz's website. Buyer Beware: Chicken From China? - Buyer Beware: Chicken From China? | The Dr. Oz Show Dr. Oz said the chicken will be sold in stores and restaurants without any labeling as to where the chicken was processed. I am thinking about raising my own chickens and processing them myself! It seems that our food supply has more dangers than ever with GMO's hidden in our food and now food processing in foreign countries. Would you eat chicken processed in China?

How would we know the chickens being sent are the ones being shipped back?

Now days, I only buy pasture raised certified organic or organic-like (if I trust the farmer) chickens that have not been supplemented with any feed that contains GMOs, such as GMO corn and GMO soy. I certainly wouldn't want them sent anywhere too far away for processing.

Many communities now offer farm tours for local farmers. It's a growing trend so you can look for it in your area or suggest one be started if it is not already being done. It gives you an excellent opportunity to actually SEE where and how your food is being grown. It also gives you a chance to meet the farmer and talk with them about how they raise the food they sell. You can also find out more about how they process the chickens.

Don't go by the marketing pictures on the packaging. Go see for yourself. Farmers who raise their chickens under good conditions are proud to show you their set-up. Those who don't raise their chickens under good conditions, would rather hide what they are doing.

Would you buy and eat chicken processed in China?

NO, unless I lived in China and could see the set-up.

With a few exceptions, I buy the food raised or grown closest to me in distance and time. So no, not unless I am in China.

Kicking illegals out who do the meat processing is one of the reasons. Union pressure to raise wages for legally employed workers is another. Shareholders want to have higher returns for their investment in food corporations. Fourth and most important, Americans want their food cheap and readily available everywhere.

So the answer is logically: CHINA!
