It is a popular fruit in Singapore where my son lives. He was trying to explain to me what it tastes like and just couldn't explain it. Then he sent me this video. I understand now!

No - but I was around once when one was cut open and served (there were no takers other than the server).

It is the only food that has ever induced a gag-reflex in me just from the odor - a reflex I was completely unable to suppress, and I tried more than once (by 'tried', I mean I simply came within smelling distance).

Seriously. I was genuinely in awe of the extreme and overpowering unearthly badness of the smell.

Son actually tried it and said it has a chicken like texture . Why is it everything tastes like chicken. He wonders how on earth it became so popular in Singapore.

I don't know if it was Durian (I don't remember it having spikes) but there was another fruit from Asia
that smelled really bad (even being 5 feet away from it).
Here are some other "unique dishes"

I remember seeing it sold on street when I was in China. But as far as I know I haven't tried it.

If it smells bad, I'm not eating it.
