A Los Angeles-based company called Coffee Blocks is hoping you'll reach past the half-and-half and instead give butter, coconut oil and egg yolks a try in your morning brew.

The company, started by former athletes Tom Meredith, Steven Kiefer and Chad Galbreath, has created a Kickstarter campaign to fund production of its instant butter coffee. It's a drink that contains grass-fed butter, organic coconut oil, organic fair trade coffee, organic vanilla and free-range egg yolks.

Instead of half-and-half in your coffee, how about butter and eggs?*-*Los Angeles Times

Here, in Dixie, we already use coffee in our red-eye gravy. However, I'm not sure we'll ever allow buttah n' eggs in our coffee.

I might try it once just to see what the flavor is but I'm good with regular old cream and a wee bit of sugar for now.

I add egg shell, one per quart, but only if I need to reduce acidity, that is, if I have a blend with too much robusta or the coffee is straight robusta. With better coffees (100% arabica) it's a bad idea to add egg shell; it makes a less flavorful drink.

My advice is to tread lightly when experimenting with unusual additions.

Coconut oil, butter, & cream in coffee is a low carb "thing". I think it's called Bulletproof Coffee. Some folks love it. Never heard of adding an egg, though.

I think I will put a scrambled egg, some cooked sausage, and butter in the blender, puree them, add coffee, blend, and sip it all through a straw.
