Zackly, look around and find better quality. It takes a little more time, not that much more, and it is worth it.
We have one grocery store that has driven out all the competition. So there are things I can only buy there.
I buy bread and bagels at the 99 Cent Only store. They have a different assortment every time we go, but they have good stuff, the ones that are usually $3 at the grocery store, for a dollar each. They also usually have good prices on produce although it's not usually the prettiest produce.
I buy meat, chicken and spices at Sam's. I like the big bottles of spices and my mom will bring her little jars over to fill from them, so the spices don't get old before we use them all up. Sams also has the best toilet paper and the cheapest spot treatment for dogs that I've found anywhere that actually works. (usually $20 for 6 months of flea/tick treatment).
You can get a lot of condiments, soup, pasta, and other simple items at a dollar store nowadays. Why pay more at a supermarket!
