Not classy, but hey, there is a time and place for everything.
I've been known to pack a can of chili, fruit, or pork and beans along for my kayaking trips when I'm too lazy to make a sandwich. Sometimes I paddle along with the can open in the cockpit and grab a bite every few strokes, other times I actually find a cozy spot on land to enjoy a quick snack.
I've also brought a can of food work a few times, when I couldn't make my lunch. My coworkers give me a hard time about being *too frugal* (they know I'm saving up for a trip) but it's all in good fun.
When I'm on vacation or a mini-trip, I often pack a plastic spoon and 1 or 2 canned soups, and just eat that without heating it up. I usually can't count on having access to a microwave, nor would I have brought a container to heat it up anyways. This way, I can avoid lines, save money, and save time too. If there turns out to be time for to grab food, I can always save the soup for another time.
I haven't done this much while at work, but the few times I did, I did pour it into a container and then heat it, since it seems eating out of the can at work may not look so good.
What you described has nothing to do with classy but more on nasty. Really? Cold soup in a can? I imagine how salty it is. Just overall nasty in my opinion. Canned soup will NEVER be on my list to eat when camping or on vacation.
The point of vacation and camping is to eat good food right?

There are plenty of really tasty lower-sodium canned soups. Many of the Progresso Soups come to mind. It's not all as bad as Campbell's condensed soups.

Find a warm spot under your hood and stick there and let it heat up.
