LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Krystal burgers! Combo #1 is my go-to meal when I have to eat on the run.

We had a few Krystal locations in San Antonio, TX a few years ago, but it was very short lived. They closed all of their San Antonio locations in what seemed like less than two years after they opened. I didn't like their burgers and I can't recall anyone else locally saying they did.

I had White Castle about a decade ago and it made me very sick, so never again.

That's actually a newer term--I've only seen it used widely in the past 15 years at the most. They are properly Krystals or White Castles .

There was one Krystal several years ago in Houston--it didn't last very long. I wonder if it was the same franchisee who had the San Antonio Krystal's

I guess Texans are too spoiled by Whataburger on every corner.

I can't speak for Houston, but in San Antonio it seemed like they picked really bad locations to open up and once the hype of the small burgers aka "sliders" died down after grand opening, it seems like no one really wanted to bother for the drive to the locations.

I can't find it now, but I remember the news reporting that the first San Antonio location's grand opening being the highest grossing first day sales ever for Krystal at that time.

Bottom line is that you are right...this is whataburger territory. Even In-and-Out will have tough competition with whataburger in the long run when they open their new stores here this year.

When my wife and I were dating she brought me to a White Castle. I had never been.

Let's just say I was not a fan.
I'm all for sliders, but to me the consistency of the meat was very strange.
I told her it was like someone pre-chewed the burger for me and then reformed it into a patty.

That's the most accurate description of White Castle burgers I've ever read.

Well, I've been craving real White Castle's burgers ever since I moved to California from Chicago. I miss those little buggers. The ones in the grocery stores frozen food section don't begin to compare to the real thing. Some of the White Castles in some Chicago neighborhoods weren't all that good, but if you went to the right one - wow! I wish I could have some right now.

I go to White Castle every now and then now that it's down the street. I wouldn't drive 1 or 2 hours just to go to one for sure. I also go to WC more often since if I move, I probably won't ever eat there again.

There is something about the food that's delicious, but not as wholesome. I still need to eat it in greater moderation.
