Why does so many burger chains use sesame seed buns for their burgers? What's the point of sesame seeds on burger buns? They add little to no flavor. I have a dental bridge and these seeds are a pain.

It is part of their original marketing I would guess.
If a company opened using the sesame seed buns then it would be silly for them to change the sandwich or the marketing.
I believe McDonald's song for the Big Mac included the sesame seed bun.

If you don't like them on your sandwich scrape them off.

I agree that they add little flavor; however, they do add some eye appeal. The seeds make the bun look more appetizing AND give a perception of something more expensive and special.

Don't worry, brioche buns are reaching a near endemic popularity and will probably soon be the staple after this ciabatta thing.
