I also recall getting glasses in soap detergent boxes. Now the idea just seems odd! There were also giveaways of dishes and glassware when you went to the movies. You would match your ticket number to the one they called.

Umm hummm. I still have two sports-teams glasses from a gas station, many years ago.

We collected and saved a set of 8 for each kid when they were small....race cars for DS and farm animals for DD. They're packed away somewhere waiting for them to have their own kids and want them.

And yeah, we had some when we were kids...Archie Comic characters, I think.

We're showing our age! We used to have a whole set of those Flintstone glasses at my house when I was a kid - Welch's grape jelly (they were sponsors of the Flintstones). We used to drink our Funny Face, Koolaid, or grape juice out of those glasses while watching the Flintstones or Batman. Ahhh, the 60's...

My mother has the UGLIEST set of those movie theater dishes in her attic (painted with pink flowers). They gave them away a piece at a time at the movies...the object being young couples dated at the movies in the early 50's, and they would eventually have a set of dishes to set up housekeeping when/if they got married. My mother never used hers. I have a bit more respect for them after I saw a similar set at an antique market.

DH keeps buying these when he visits his favorite big box store. Meanwhile I am trying to get rid of all the extra stuff in the cupboards.

I give them to our childless, adult daughter. I suspect she takes them to the Salvation Army.

Those glasses are all over the flea markets/antique shops. I've often wondered about their origin because I don't remember seeing them in the stores.

I just looked in the cupboard - it seems I have several Pokémon jelly glasses.
