if you only ordered a $5 - $7 bowl of soup how much tip would you give them?

I usually only leave a dollar since it's such a small order

people that leave like a $3 - $4 tip for a $5 bowl of soup are just throwing your money away.

that $5 - $7 bowl of soup turns into a $10 - 12 bowl of soup

Did they serve your meal, clean it up and get you anything else you requested or did you go to the kitchen and get it yourself?

10-15% for anything under 20 bucks depending on the service is my standard. I'll never leave anything less than a dollar thou.

It depends. I have two favorite Pho places here in the Bay Area.

#1 - friendly (hard to find at a Pho place), efficient service, nice environment and great food - 15-20% tip
#2 - indifferent service, good food and so-so environment - 5-10% tip

Cheapskate.

A person after my own heart.

The best food is always had in the back of the kitchen. As well as the best drinks.

LOL - I might have a touch of that at times.

Some restaurants still have a "Chef's Table" in the kitchen. My wife and I were fortunate enough to be invited to eat at the chef's table in an excellent Italian restaurant. The experience of dining in the kitchen was outstanding (I wonder if I left a tip, though ).

When we go to a Pho place, we always leave the server a 20% tip. Why should it be different than dining in other places where servers wait on you?
