Research Shows Zero-Calorie Sweeteners Can Raise Blood Sugar - WSJ

Artificial sweeteners may lead to diabetes

The research shows that zero-calorie sweeteners such as saccharin, sucralose and aspartame can alter the population of bacteria in the gut and trigger unwanted changes such as higher blood glucose levels—a risk factor for diabetes.
In one experiment, the researchers found that mice whose diets included saccharin, sucralose or aspartame had significantly higher blood-glucose levels than mice whose diet included sugar, or no sugar at all.
I'm sure the artificial sweetener lobby will get right on this! Personally, I avoid the stuff. Coffee with no sugar/sweetener, and on the very rare occasion I do drink a soft drink, I avoid diet. I will add a bit of honey to my tea. Water may be boring, but it's still unbeatable.

I was excited to read this as many I'm sure were, but if you actually read it, only one type of artificial sweetener and very tiny human sample size.

The #1 overwhelming, probably by a factor 10, cause of overweight diabetic people?

Reminds me of all the idiots back in the 1970's that got excited because mice eating railroad car size loads of saccharin died.

You realize that if you drink enough water quick enough it can kill you. Careful to limit or maybe even eliminate water from your diet.
