I haven't hosted in years (and Friendsgiving is always a potluck affair), but I tend to get the leftovers to bring home. One of the fringe benefits of being the youngest person at the family Thanksgiving meals - I get first dibs on the food!
Love leftovers from Thanksgiving especially if my mom cooks it. She is this year, a 26 pound turkey for 10 people!
Yes she always gives leftovers because she lives alone and who can eat all of that food. Even when we all lived at home she gave leftovers. My in-laws never give away leftovers except maybe a dessert. My one SIL & her family are on a tight budget so leftovers is another meal for them. My MIL is the same way. Unless you ask she will not give leftovers unless it's a dessert she wants out of the house. My mom makes enough for an army where my MIL makes just enough so she has 2 meals leftover.
Even with large family gatherings, I don't cook extra. I spend hundreds of dollars on the meal. No point in spending extra to have a mountain of leftovers.
We don't like leftovers usually and try to send it ALL away. If not, I will make something else with it but reluctantly. Thankfully the guests we are having loves leftovers.

Absolutely I do! We are cooking a pretty large bird for just 6 of us...but my son loves left overs. He takes sandwiches to work and he like pot pie, etc. Also, I am making 3 pies...apple, pumpkin and pecan....FAR too much for us. He is taking the left over pie to work. He says many bachelors there have come to expect it the following Monday!!!
I love them and the many amazing meals I will make from them (tacos to soup to sandwiches to Thanksgiving II), so I've been known to be a leftover grinch. I'm doing all the work of hosting and I paid for the meal, so I feel the leftovers are my "just desserts," so to speak. I won't truly be able to relax and enjoy the meal as much the day I do all the work, as I will the rest of the weekend.
This year, since I'm only having two people over, I plan to send leftovers home. There is plenty for all of us to enjoy.
