I was in the mood for Vaca frita which I haven't made in a while and was floored how expensive flank or even the cheaper cut brisket has become, come to think of it all meat, even pork have become expensive.

Aldi's doesn't carry these cuts so these are my Publix's prices.

Flank steak are 8.99 a lb
Brisket 7.99 a lb
Ribeye steaks 11.99 a lb (these I buy wholesale and cut my own steaks and even then they stil are now running me about 8.00 bucks a lb)

I am just curious what are your meat prices in your area? Is it just me, but is the cost of meat going up even on cheaper cuts?

Mine is the same as yours at Harris Teeter give or take a dollar depending on the grade you get.

Aldi has beef flank as I get it all the time. Have you asked your Aldi manager to see if they can order it for you?

I will talk to the manager and see if they can order it, since it should be a heck of lot cheaper.

That is high. Here Flank is 4.99;Brisket like 5.99 whole and Ribeye 8.99 lb. That is grain feed prime. Grass feed is cheaper here locally available from butcher shops in quarters ;half or whole. Order cut to your specs. Grass fed is very popular for heath reasons now. Most people who raise beef have always only eaten grass feed.

That is what the prices were about a year ago and then now they have sky rocketed.

boneless

prime grade rib eye steaks 18.99lb
choice grade rib eyes 11.99-13.99lb
select grade rib eyes 7.99- 9.99lb

fresh briskets flat cut is 7.99-8.99lb
point cuts 5.99-6.99lb

flank steak 7.99-8,99lb

buy a top butt sirloin- (around 3.99-4.99lb) and slice that up for thin sliced meats or for sirloin steaks

the market is rising because of demands on "prime ribs" for Christmas (on rib eyes)

Will the market go down after holidays? I buy whole sale so don't worry to much but stupid me doesn't know how to butcher a half cow. It is embrassing since I am a granddaughter of someone that did this his whole life marrried a Irisih man that said dad did the same, and then second husband's granddad also did the same. I have no idea how to get the brisket cut or flank steak cut.

Seriously in retirement I might be willing to learn this trade just for my own benefit.

I've seen brisket for about $3/lb. It's the packer trimmed rather than market trimmed, which means more waste.

wow, have you seen it for that price recently? I have seen it for closer to what Texdav said. No, not as high as the op, but way to high for the cut of meat it is. If I saw it for $3 I would try and find room in my freezer for a couple. Now around Memorial day and a few times during the summer I saw it for just over $3.
