And Red Bird org whole chickens...a great buy!
30-50% off.
I never pay full price for meat or rarely for anything for that matter. Oh, sometimes we have no choice but I do prefer enjoying those specials. Today, our favorite store has pork shoulder for $1.79 a lb. A few years ago I wouldn't think of paying that much, now I am excited to see it less than $2 a lb. If they aren't too large I will buy one today. I am trying to stay away from meat sales, my feezer is over crowded now and I just keep adding to it, but sometimes I can't resist.

I realize you are talking more about mark downs, than regular weekly sales, but we rarely have decent mark downs. They do discount the meat that needs to be sold in a hurry, but it isn't anywhere near 50$, more like 25% if we are lucky.

I bought some "fresh" haddock on "Manager's special" once - big mistake.
I bought a beef roast on "Manager's special" once - big mistake.

I know there are some legitimate bargains out there, but I can still remember the smell when I opened those packages.

Always check markdowns, never had any bad meat. Sadly, our HEB stores changed from 50% to 25% which is better than no discount, but nothing to get too excited about

I guess things are different in other stores around the country, but if it's marked down much around here it usually has a grey patch on the bottom where it can't be seen in the store ...... and yeah sometimes a bit of a funky smell coming from it.

I always check out the meat that is about to expire and marked down. Since there are only two of us most of the time now, I end up repackaging meat most of the time anyway and then freezing it. The marked down stuff goes into the freezer immediately. I've never had a bad experience with it.

What kind of butcher dept would allow that!!?
That is criminal in my book.
It's like selling bad tires half off...it is illegal or should be.
