I asked this question to my husband last night and he said no. At Subway we have the pre-cooked bacon that you can microwave. I like and it tastes the same to me as most other packaged bacon I have had. Some people prefer slab thick cut bacon, center cut etc.. I also wanted to know for those who hunt their own wild game or who are butchers do you make your own bacon? If so how is it done?
Best ive ever had was jowl bacon; way better than regular imo. As far as packaged bacon, yeah it tastes the same to me. cant say about the precooked stuff as ive never intentionally bought it. Although im fairly certain ive probably had it ive just never said "hey this is precooked bacon" so with that id probably say that it tastes no different.
We buy our bacon at a meat market that makes their own. I have a hard time eating any store bought bacon after tasting the locally made stuff. It's amazing.
As far as store bought bacon goes though, it's all similar to me, but as elnina says, different cuts and flavors make them stand apart.
Have to check out the link on making it from scratch!

Packaged bacon is good, but can vary in taste. I have never had really bad bacon, but when we get the Applewood Smoked thicker cut bacon from the bulk in the meat counter, it's well worth the higher price with an amazing difference in taste.
What ever the cheapest is. I can't see paying nearly $10.00 for bacon. The store brand $3.99 a package is fine. Now the BEST bacon I ever had was when I raised my own pigs, and smoked my own bacon.
My family processes whole hogs. There are lots of variables in bacon...what type of pig, where on the pig the meat comes from (in the U.S., most bacon is from pork belly, but in other countries, what we call bacon is usually designated as "streaky bacon" or "American style.") The curing, smoking process can differ, the thickness of cut, degree of fat v. meat can differ...nah, al bacon is not created equal.
