Everybody in my family absolutely loves blueberries, especially me. I could use them every single meal. I love them in waffles or pancakes, smoothies, salads and of course endless amounts of dessert recipes. Blueberries are nicely priced now and I need to replenish my frozen blueberries. ( same process for strawberries)

I wash them in a solution of water and about 1 tablespoon of vinegar to prevent mold. Then I thoroughly wash them again. I then dry them off and put some back in the holey plastic containers i bought them in for fresh and long lasting berries.

Then I find my largest lipped cooking pan/sheet and spread them out in a single layer. Slip this pan in the freezer. It is important no water on sheet or they stick. After they are frozen they easily go in any container or plastic freezer bag. I like freezer bags cause they take up less room in the freezer.

This way I just grab a handful of berries for my baking recipes or for cold drinks. I sometimes put them in my iced tea, in salads with pears or other fruits and blue cheese dressing . I could eat blueberries all day long!

I picked up a carton yesterday. They were gone five minutes after I washed them. It is cold enough here to freeze them outside.

Blueberry season in January?? Imported from somewhere, I guess. They are NOT cheap where I live, and they are really very big.
Wild blueberries tend to be smaller and have more intense, sweet and tangy taste, and are more antioxidant rich than the cultivated berries. I used to eat those and they taste simply wonderful.
Cultivated blueberries are harder, bigger and juicier, but have very little flavor, no acidity, and just taste watery, IMO. Those are the kind popular in my stores.

There are from South America apparently. No blueberries are growing in Michigan or Maine in January!!

Totally agree...the same thing happens with strawberries - the bigger they are the more it's like they're just painted red on the outside and are all white on the inside with no flavor except "sour". If possible, I get mine at a local "U-pick". I pick 10 pounds worth for $1 a pound (!) - the best! Of course that means waiting until sometime in May...not January!
