oh yes my grandmother and mother would have my dad stop at stuckeys on road trips and pick it up . I thought it was repulsive . so I would get a chocolate covered cherry instead . I don't ever want to see that stuff again ugh !!!
We had a Stuckey s near us as well....I neverknew until later that it was a chain of stores.
My great grandmother and I shared a love of those chocolate covered cherries.
Divinity in our area of the Midwest was marshmallows, canned fruit (usually fruit cocktail, drained of course) and whipped cream. It seems to me jello was in there somewhere as well. Jello mixed with whipped cream so you got this pastel green or pink stuff.
I hated the stuff. I have no idea how it was made. I would rather eat sugar with a spoon.
Isn't that ambrosia?
Never liked it, nor divinity. Everybody can have my share.
Sounds like we're talking about more than once confection here. To me, divinities are cookies made of mostly egg whites and air bubbles. It's nothing like fudge, that's for sure. What flavor is divinity fudge? I never heard of it before.
This is what I know divinity to be - meringue like..sometimes with walnuts in it, sometimes without.
Always fantastic, though! Melts in your mouth. YUM!
There are lots of cookies like this....but never heard them called divinity. Divinity candy hardly melts in your mouth...lol?
I'm wondering if some people are mistaking nougat for divinity. Nougat is white with nuts and very chewy. Divinity--at least the one my mother made as well as the recipe that's in The Joy of Cooking--is more like a thick meringue. It's not chewy in the least. Done right, it is a little firm on the outside, the inside creamy.
For sure, it's sweet. You've got to be a hardcore sweet tooth to eat more than a piece.

That is what I know as divinity...but it's not meet in your mouth like a true meringue though.

It's a shame we don't all live within driving distance of each other. I would host a divinity party where everyone brings a batch and we can all compare our versions. I'm thinking a dry chardonnay would make the perfect palate cleanser. LOL!
