Depends on the food item, the way it was packaged before freezing, what else is in the freezer (odor cross-contamination), and how well it stayed frozen.
Regarding packaging, vacuum sealing is usually best, freezing in liquid is also good, sausages in casings tend to freeze well.

If you ask the "officials", they say about 1 year for any raw meat that is wrapped well and put immediately into the freezer. Personally, we've never done well with things in the freezer for more than a year. http://www.fsis.usda.gov/wps/wcm/con...df?MOD=AJPERES
