Anyone else hate having to eat breakfast? I know, "it's the most important meal of the day." But I am not hungry in the morning, and when I have some coffee that also makes me feel full. I'd rather have a few cups of coffee all morning and skip breakfast (I put hot chocolate in my coffee), but I guess that's a bad idea? I don't get really hungry til around 10:00 and I can't have a large meal then because I'm at work and it will mess up lunch. I have been making myself eat breakfast for a while now (homemade omelet) but I have to force myself to make it on the weekends, and eat it every day...I'd rather not. What's the minimum a healthy person should eat in the morning? Is a banana better than nothing? I'm not a big fruit eater and I don't like protein bars.

If you hate breakfast, eat whatever you like to eat. You don't need to eat typical breakfast food, which is different in every country/ethnic/culture anyway. Eat variety of stuff - eating every day an omelet would make me hate breakfasts too...

If you are not hungry in the morning, take a light smack with you to work to curb the hunger you get at 10AM, and prevent overeating at lunch time.
It doesn't really matter what you eat, and at what time (think about shift workers), but the total amount of calories consumed a day. Eating all 2000 cal at one meal isn't recommended, though.
The best method is to divide your daily intake by three meals. Lets say: 350 cal for breakfast, 550 cal for lunch and 1100 cal for dinner... or something like that...

Do you snack after dinner? That may be impacting your morning appetite. The body needs a 10-12 hour stretch of fasting, which is usually overnight between dinner and breakfast. If you are snacking after dinner, say a little something around 10:00 at night, then your body won't want anything until about 10:00 the next morning.

As for the hot chocolate added to the coffee, that's adding sugar without the buffer of some fat or protein, so that's not really good for your blood sugar. Maybe add a couple of tablespoons of nuts.

There is a segment of dieters who observe “intermittent fasting”. That is, they believe that the longer you go without eating in the morning, the more fat your body will burn.

How about if you just say no to breakfast, and have a nice healthy lunch? If the hungries hit at 10:00 while you’re working, a protein shake (like Atkins) would tide you over.

Though we are breakfast eaters and think it is an important meal, I don't think skipping it is going to kill anyone or make anyone sick. I do think it is very important for children to eat something before starting their school day. For those who do not like breakfast, yes, you have eat anything early, just get a little something in your stomach. Our daughter usually has a small serving of cottage cheese or yogurt. Some mornings I just have a slice of avocado toast or cheese toast. I do always, have a glass or juice or some fruit. Heck, we do not eat breakfast on Sunday until after church,so it is really lunch time. We just skip lunch on Sunday.

This is good stuff! YES I have heard about the 12 hour fasting. We're on a Mediterranean "diet" now so that is how I eat at lunch and dinner. I sometimes snack after 7 pm, not always...sometimes just a small dessert (if there's candy in the house). But, I have always been this way. I remember drinking hot chocolate before going off to high school and feeling full (I didn't eat breakfast). It doesn't matter what I've eaten or not eaten the night before. Appreciate the ideas, I will think it over this weekend.

I used to hate breakfast... actually, eating in the morning used to make me sick (as in vomit-inducing). So I know where you are and have been slightly worse. I decided that I needed to lose a bit of weight and was following a well known routine for exercise and diet where the diet made the breakfast highly important so I struggled to make it work. It was a rough first month and I discovered that what I didn't like was Rushing. When I took the time to cook, sit down and eat at a reasonable pace, then clean up I no longer had issues with feeling sick. Yes, it required that I get up more than 5 minutes before I needed to get out the door, which required that I go to bed earlier ~ so it was a big lifestyle change.

Now, 12 years later, I struggle to survive the whole day if I don't have some breakfast. If I eat a BIG breakfast, I'll only eat one more meal during the day (normally somewhere between lunch and dinner). I have WAY more energy, am more alert to the point that I do my best work 7am~11am (I'm up at 6am most days) and the upside for me is that I've never gained back any of the weight I'd lost.

So, if you want to change, you can find a way to enact that change. The way you feel is mental conditioning.

Actually.. a lot of the docs and nutritionists that I've been seeing on tv and reading are changing their mind on the breakfast thing for everyone. If you don't like breakfast.. don't eat it. I can't eat when I wake up. Not for about 3 or 4 hrs anyway.

Yeah...the "most important meal of the day" is kind of bogus to me. As another poster said, the overall calories and nutrients consumed in a day are the most important, I think. If breakfast is a bit too much for you but you need a little energy boost, maybe you can try a meal replacement or protein shake? For convenience, you can by them already prepared in a can, or you can buy a shaker bottle and make them yourself.

I am struggling with the calorie thing. I need to lose at least 10 lbs and I don't exercise much. I would love to have a snack of cheese, nuts and maybe avocado in the morning. But that is a LOT of calories. I will think on this.
