Default Spices and Herbs

Did some searching, but did not find what I was interested in -- spices and herbs, and what they complement?

Anyone know of a good source, preferably in the form of a list of spices and herbs used most often in our kitchens? I know I can read the tiny print on the spice jars, or consult my cookbooks, but what I'd like is an easy-reference sheet (something akin to the periodic chart used in chemistry). Surely somebody makes one -- in all of my years of teaching, I saw "cheat sheets" published and sold for all kinds of things.

I've been having fun with this book.

Amazon.com: Field Guide to Herbs & Spices: How to Identify, Select, and Use Virtually Every Seasoning at the Market (Field Guide To...): Books: Aliza Green

It's not exactly what you're looking for in that it's not in list/chart form. But I've found it handy.

I haven't found a list either. I agree with Debsi, get yourself a good book on herbs and they will tell you what they compliment. You may find what you are looking for at a organic produce or health food store.

Thanks Debsi. I will check into that book. And the suggestion to look at the local organic store is a good one.

Just seems to me there ought to be a sheet out there, somewhere. I guess if I get desperate, perhaps I can copy some pages from one of my cookbooks, laminate it, and keep it handy. Some of cookbooks have some suggestions, but then I have to drag the book out, blah blah blah. . . and what I have in mind is an easy reference guide.
