I've made a few different types of dairy free cheese using cashews. Most were pretty good. One was a sauce and it was really good. I didn't culture mine so I'd be interested in trying some of the new ones on the market that are made with nuts and also cultured. Most dairy free cheese alternatives I've bought in the past have been absolutely disgusting. These actually look good.

I've had a number of dairy free cheeses made from nuts that were really, really good- and unfortunately pretty pricey, too.

Cashew "cheese" is the signature of a popular vegan place, here, but it's not really my kind of restaurant...fairly pretentious and the owner is truly obnoxious.

I have bought them for my vegan friends if I am cooking for them. They aren't bad if you aren't expecting them to be cheese. I don't buy them normally.

But I do buy frequently and really love the taste of is nutritional yeast flakes. (not bread yeast) It's a nutty almost parm flavor. I use it a lot.

I like cheese and I like nuts. I can live without nut cheese, though.

that just sounds dirty. lol

The only thing I know about vegan cheese is that the youngest kid from "Home Improvement" started a vegan cheese company with his then-wife.. She was 30-something, he was 17..

During the divorce they were fighting over the company.. It appears to have gone under.
