I recently had some home made ice cream with a tiny amount of salt added. It was delicious. Actually made it taste sweeter. Don't think I've seen salt on any of the major name brand ice creams on the market. Has anyone? Does anyone else like salt in their ice cream?

Salt does bring out the sweetness in other ingredients like strawberries. It's being used a lot in artisan ice creams, usually specialty small batches of ice cream and more expensive. It's great that you know how to make artisan ice cream in your own home! It's a very tricky ingredient to have control over - a little too much and the batch is ruined, but done correctly, it is pure bliss!

I recently tried salted carmeal ice cream. Though it had good flavor, its not something I would prefer.

Yes, it makes it sweeter. I also put salt on fruit.

I think I've shared this in this forum before, but I have a guilty pleasure that people think is whack-a-doodle crazy until they try it themselves.

Chocolate ice cream with Frito Corn Chips. The salty and the crunch with the sweetness of the chocolate ice cream is WONDERFUL!

I've known multiple people to crinkle their nose at the thought. They think it's disgusting. Then I challenge them to try it. A few have been adventurous enough to try it, and reported back that they were amazed to find that they love it too.

I usually add a pinch of salt to a gallon of ice cream.

My other favorite thing to put into homemade ice cream is a very small amount of rum or whisky, depending on the ice cream flavor. It's not enough to make anyone drunk, maybe a tablespoon in the entire batch, but it adds a little extra dimension of flavor and keeps it from freezing as hard.

Salt and sweet is always a winning combo, in my book.
