Long before she was a TV personality, she owned a store in East Hampton, NY called The Barefoot Contessa. They had great stuff there, but the prices were insane. They used to sell lobster salad for $100 a pound...and that was 15 years ago. I once bought a 1/4 pound just to see what the fuss was about.

Anyway, she ended up selling the store to the employees and within a year or 2, she increased the rent on them substantially. Then Citarella opened up a block away and it was all over for The Barefoot Contessa. For what it's worth, she was a very nice lady when she was running the shop. At least to the customers, anyway.
