My health nut daughter suggested i try turkey bacon rather than regular bacon,
My take=
looks kinda weird,
Doesnt smell like bacon when cooking,
doesnt taste like bacon,
has a rather rubbery texture when eating it,
Has a rather synthetic aftertaste,
Yuck! inedible!
I'll not be fooled again, its gonna be real bacon or no bacon..
Been there, done that, will not do it again! There is no substitute for bacon.
Agreed. I ate turkey bacon for a long time when I was trying to lose weight and get lean for my overly critical ex. It doesn't taste bad, especially if it's crisp. However, it doesn't taste like bacon, so don't hold it to that high standard If you want a bacon substitute that tastes really great, go with chicken sausage. Yummy!
If you want bacon but want to reduce fat, buy either smoked pork chops or Canadian bacon. Most of those turkey products have enough fat added that they are no lower in fat so you aren't gaining anything and giving up flavor and texture.
Lots of diet suggestions are to substitute ground turkey for beef, but the last ground turkey I looked at was 20% fat and I can buy ground beef with a lot less fat than that.
We eat a lot of turkey bacon. No, it doesn't taste like regular bacon and no it isn't even as good, but it is a lot less fat, easy to fix, freezes well or even cook an entire package, put in fridge and just heat in the micro, plus it is a lot less expensive Now, that I have said this, I fix it mainly cause spoiled brat loves it. I could go without it the rest of my life. As usual, he gets his way...
What brand of turkey bacon did you have? I've had good turkey bacon (tastes just like pork) and bad turkey bacon (taste like I don't know what).
The label says Butterball.
