It will be interesting to see the statistics in a few years and if it really helps. I think people will just learn they need to ask for these things. But it is a good start.
Apparently the govt is also against alcohol. Montevideo is looking like a whole lot less fun these days.
Personally, I think it's dumb for govt to attack salt shakers. Unless you're eating all fresh food, with a minimum of saucing, the amount of salt in canned goods and most restaurant recipes is off the charts. Sprinkling on some table salt is nothing compared to what's already in most of the food.
OTOH, I grew up in a low-salt family as parents both had high blood pressure. My wife says I undersalt everything. I find typical fast food and food at most sit-down chains pretty salty since I'm used to not having it. I guess it has benefits - with my sixties in sight, my blood pressure is still fine, although nobody would call me skinny.
I am tired of government telling us what we can and can not eat or do, unless what we do is damaging to others, like drinking and driving. The worst part of all this: what isn't good for us today will be the staff of life 50 years from now and visa versa. I hate even going to someone's house and finding no S&P. I know, some people do not use it, that is fine, but they shouldn't push their views down the throats of others.
It was butter, then margarine, then vegetable oil, now the circle is back to butter is good for you.
Everything in moderation and Big Brother does not have to watch over our pantry!
What is next? Germany already has limits on hairdryer wattage! Ladies keep it short! And still you read about one food scandal or another almost daily in the reputable newspapers.
Uruguay? Most people don't even know where that is. When I go out to eat I want salt, pepper, Tobasco sauce, ketchup, mustard, sugar on the table. I will decide if and how much I will use. OH and bring me a water too.

Same here but hold the water and make it sweet iced tea.
The amount of sodium in pre-prepared food is ridiculous, anyway. Look at this nute fact on the back of a simple ham/cheese sub I got from Food Lion...I wanted to barf it up after I looked at this:
I've lived long enough to watch these things go full circle also so I take it all with a, um, grain of salt. The trick is to get to know what's healthy for you, eat it and then listen to your body. It will tell you what you need. That's my belief. Isn't it about balance and moderation?
Funny story. I cut way down on salt a few years ago. Then I complained to my PA that I was listless and had little energy. After some testing she said, "Good grief, Girl! Go home and eat a plate of bacon and eggs. You haven't been eating enough salt."
As I drove home I laughed, thinking she probably didn't have to tell that to too many of her patients. Moderation.
i have not had salt in my house in over thirty years, cooking oil either. not a health nut just dont care for salt or fried foods
