Yeah, I just don't get the whole pretentious vibe when I come here. I do not consider myself a foodie but more of a food geek and cooking is my hobby. I love coming here, I learn a lot. I also find other people's ideas, opinions and cooking triumphs very interesting. I find the people I interact with here nice and helpful. Maybe to those who don't have this hobby or intense interest it comes across wrong. I don't know.
I will admit I could live without all the tipping threads.
I think I may be pretentious about using real butter, real sour cream, real cream, nothing low fat, no fat, etc etc and using only the cheese sauce I created for Macaroni and Cheese and other dips and dishes that require cheese sauce.
Other than that I don't think I am so bad overall but maybe I am and just don't realize it.

Gonna fry some chicken nuggets and French fries tonight for supper. Gotta get my truffle oil, my freshly grated Parmesan cheese, my made from scratch dipping sauce with an ounce of $400 liquor for flavor and... oh heck Wesson Oil will do just fine!

Well we have tatsuta age with tonkatsu sauce and fries with truffle mayo...does that make me pretentious?
I have a friend who's a brand snob. I take great glee in serving him a Scotch and telling him it's an expensive single-malt . The later I show him the bottle- an unrecognizable brand from Winco.
