Was at the supermarket the other day, looking for canned roast beef to use in quick beef stews. All this store had were the large cans (not 5.5 oz), not suitable for that purpose. But they did had something new, canned burrito and taco meat, twice the size for about a buck, so I picked up three cans to check them out.

Not really the best notion. It can be eaten right out of the can but heating is probably better. Had it heated with tortillas last night.......and I think I am feeling the after effects today. So even that may rule it out as something to get in the emergency food supplies.....unless one needs something to mix with their curry.

Also, it said to consume within 8 hours after opening, no mention of refrigeration or not. So even if it can be "neutralized" in a stew, doesn't sound like it would be suitable for left overs.

I guess it is to the larger store to get the right cans.

I've never been able to get past the idea of meat or fish that has been in a can for YEARS! Just doesn't appeal to me.

People used to can meat all the time way back when. We are just spoiled as a culture now that we have a plethora fresh products to choose from.

That being said yeah I suspect it could take some getting used to.

More than likely OP its the spices that are affecting you.

As they are still here on the table, had it with lemon pepper, chopped onions, Italian blend (Parmesan & Romano) powdered cheese, Tarragon Leaves, red leaf lettuce........and a shot of Red Label Scotch.

Oh, well.......................

Like gas station sushi. There are just some things you don't eat.

Me either with the exception of Tuna. And I can eat canned salmon but not too often. I like to make salmon patties about once a year and on rare occassions we put canned salmon on our bagels and cream cheese. It is a cheap substitute for lox and bagels. Certainly not the same but at least it is better than some other things I can think of.

If you read title of the thread literally it could actually mean "Canned Donkey Meat". After all a burrito is a small donkey. LOL

In Spain, the highest quality seafood is canned. Tapas bars serve the canned seafood straight from the can. You'll find tuna, baby eels, cockles, clams, mussels, octopus...

Don't knock canned seafood if you haven't tried the best.
