At Costco in the 5 dozen pack of tiny, tiny Robin-egg-size eggs, came out to $3.62 a dozen - ugh - no shortage at least, they had several pallets there so guess I shouldn't complain.

do you measure your family's health with dollar signs?? ,,,,, those eggs could be 9.99 and the fruit loops would still buy them

Oh dear my post above should have made clear the price was for totally abused eggs that were completely caged and fed meat, hormones and pesticides, you know, the tasty ones!!

I was at the grocery today, they're still under $3/dozen. But the store (H-E-B) is limiting people to 3 dozen per purchase.

I love eggs. It's a shame duck and geese eggs aren't as readily available as chicken eggs...

$1.99, but it is certainly easy to find them for much more

I have yet to pay more than $1.89 for large at the regular supermarkets, is there some shortage in other parts of the country or something?

There were several farms in Iowa that were struck by Avian flu and all chickens had to be destroyed.

Since many grocery chains have long-term agreements with suppliers, the shortages (and high prices) should be regional. However, such shortages does give a retailer an opportunity to raise prices.

For example, when the apple crop is hit by a late frost in May, retailers jack up the price of the last crop of apples, even though they have been in cold storage since October and supply is adequate in the current months.
