I shared a pic of my homemade dinner and to my surprise, people thought it looked "fancy." I do try slightly to make my food look pretty but in the summer basically anything based on produce looks nice by default.
So do you dress up your plates before you serve yourself of loved ones? I err on the side of neatly arranged.
Not really. Personally I have always been more attracted by smell. if I had gone on sight then I would have missed many of my favorite. Nice presentation but I do not dress it up any.
Always! I even do it when I eat by myself. Every single bite.
First and foremost, what I am serving has to look nice. I want to honor my own effort and the ingredients. When the food is beautiful, my guests will assume it tastes good as well. I want my food to look interesting, and visually appealing.
Presentation is crucial. This effort should be not spared when putting food on a plate for kids. If it looks good, they will want to try it.

Umm...having been a "chef" {glorified line cook} in a restaurant/s for 2/3s my working life, I am the cook here at home. I NEVER serve pots and pans on the table, I NEVER serve bowls of food at the table or "family style" at meals!
How COULD I?
I ALWAYS serve plates "restaurant style" and made to look "pretty" as you put it. {appetizing is my word for it}.
It looks better and is MORE APPETIZING to sit down to such...now if I can find someone to cookand serve restaurant style for me at home... {!! }
