I think now they have electronic ones which makes me reconsider.
The new ones are so much diff6 and safer. I grew up with a mother that would not use one because saw the injuries that happened to a neighbor....she passed some of that fear to me......then she saw the difference in the modern ones when she was cooking with her niece...now she uses ones often.

Look into the current generation of them...not just judge them from the old ones.

True. You seriously cannot be trusted with a pressure cooker.

Are you using reverse psychology on me? Just kidding. I'm not getting a pressure cooker. I have no reason to get one. I'd only do this one recipe in it and, apparently, the rice cooker works just fine.

A few days ago, I came across this recipe for Filipino Chicken Adobo... in the crockpot: Slow Cooker Chicken Adobo Recipe - CHOW.com

I didn't have onions or sugar, so I figured I'd just do what I do on the stovetop, but in the crockpot instead. I'm not sure why I wanted to do it this way -- the stovetop recipe is just as easy, with no labor -- but what the hey.

What could go wrong?

Let me TELL you what could go wrong.

I forked a piece of the chicken and it fell apart. Hmmm. It was obviously cooked through. But it looked disgusting. Six chicken thighs... turned to crap. But it smelled good. Let me taste it.

OH. MY. GOD! It was delicious.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I'm going to PURPOSELY make this mistake again.
BUMPING OLD THREAD:

Dawn, I am making this tonight using your "variation". I have a slow cook/rice maker in one. So I am going to slow cook till tender and then use the rice cook function to cook it down.

Ooooh! Let me know if it works out for you or if my rice cooker is a freak of nature.

It was really good! I was scared the bay leaves were going to overpower the taste but it was perfect. I let it reduce on the rice cooker side for 20 minutes. So it wasn't burnt but definitely reduced to a slightly thicker sauce. I think next time I am going to reduce it a bit more.

Thanks!
